Raleighvallen Back to Back tours 2007 by Boat for only € 299,00
Raleighvallen/Voltzberg Tour Program for 2007
Day 1
You check in at the
STINASU office at 06.30 h. The bus leaves around 07.00 h. heading for the
village Boskamp at the estuary of the Coppename river. This bus trip takes 2
hours and you will have breakfast during the ride. Arrived in Boskamp you will
leave by boat (with sunroof against rain and sun) to Foengoe island. During this
6 hours during journey on the Coppename river you can already spot a lot of
wildlife like, birds, giant otters, monkeys, sloth’s and with some extra luck a
jaguar drinking water from the river or swimming across the river. After 4
hours, you arrive in Witagron for a lunch break and to stretch the legs. You
leave for Foengoe island what will be reached after an other 2 hours journey on
the river. Meanwhile passing the maroon Kwinti village “Kaaimanston”. On arrival
at the island, you will be guest in the
GONINI ECO-LODGE with a magnificent view
over the Raleighfalls. The rest of the day you can have a swim or explore the
island, and of course having diner. Electricity on the Island is produced by
solar panels and will be available until 22.00 h.
Day 2
Early in the morning, you will depart, to the Voltzberg. After a short boat
trip, you will be guided through the rainforest. During this 3 hours walk you
will learn about the trees and their medical and traditional or ritual use. With
a sharp experienced eye the forest guide will show you many secrets of the
forest, like the small poison arrow frog, tracks of a jaguar or wildlife high in
the trees like one of the 8 kind of monkeys which live in the Central Suriname
Nature Reserve. In the base camp at the foot of the mountain it is time for a
break. The trip continues with climbing to the top of the Voltzberg (± 240 m and
is easier than it looks from a distance), from where you have a magnificent
view over the forest canopy. After lunch, you hike back to the riverside. You
can take a relaxing bath in the Anjumarafalls. Diner is served in the lodge.
Day 3
In the morning, you will take an educational hike to the Moedervallen (Motherfalls).
If possible, swimming is allowed at the Lolopasi beach when the water level is
low enough, or else you can have a swim at an other located place. You will
lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, you hike around Fungu island where
wildlife is so used to people that it is easy to spot them from close by. The
squirrel monkey are even used to snatch food from your hand. The guide learns
you more about the flora and fauna of the Raleighvallen. Diner is served in the
lodge. Optional: Around 21.00 h. a sparkling
musical dance evening, performed by our own Raleighboys. They will perform
better and longer if you support them with a small fee so they can buy some
beer.
Day 4
After breakfast, you depart by boat, downstream the Coppename river, to Boskamp.
The guide takes you on a short break and tour through the Kwinti maroon village,
situated along the riverbank. You will be back in Paramaribo in the afternoon.
