25 + 26 August 2007 BIRD FAIR 2007 in the Netherlands: "Vogelbescherming Nederland" is the bird protection organization in Holland that will organise this fair in the nature reserve Oostvaarderplassen near Lelystad. During this fair there will be several collections on behave of the protection of the Scarlet Ibis (Eudocimus ruber) and other coastal birds of Suriname. The money will be use by the Forest Service LBB and STINASU to take protection measurements for coastal bird with awareness programs to fight the illegal hunt (poaching) on the Scarlet Ibis "The Crown Jewel" of Suriname's coastal plains. http://www.vogelfestival.nl

June 2007 : Official opening of STINAT
YES..... It has finally happened.
The Wetland Trail STINAT has officially been opened for public by First
Lady Ms. Liesbeth Venetiaan accompanied by Managing Director from the
Suralco Mr. Warren Pedersen and Ms. Velma Monteiro Tribble from the
ALCOA Foundation by cutting a ribbon. ![]()
BOVEN-COESEWIJNE NATURE RESERVE:
14 Dec 2007 was the transfer of the new
Boven Coesewijne
ecotourism-resort
from the Nature Division to
STINASU. Financed by the W.W.F. this
eco-resort close by to the indigenous village of Bigi Poika is well known for
its Manatees, Birds, Otters and serene scenes on the river.

19 DEC 2007 : BROWNSBERG NATURE PARK:
Finishing of the W.W.F. project “Enhancing Sustainable Management of
Brownsberg Nature Park, Phase II” with the opening of an information
centre "Tonto Buka" and the park-rangers building "Tjufanga". ![]()

BROWNSBERG / TONKA-ISLAND TOUR
Ask for our combi-tour that will take you to the
Brownsberg Nature Park for 3 days and after travelling the trails
and enjoying the waterfalls, its time to relax on Tonka-island for
another 3 days. Swimming, fishing, exploring the lake with its
surrealistic view of treetops raising high above the water surface,
travelling along the shore and having dinner around a campfire. With
a licensed guide you will also make trips to STINAT and the Afobaka
hydro-electric power dam. Meals, fishing gear, guide,
transport by boat and bus are all included.

MARINE TURTLE SEASON
On the beaches of Galibi and Matapica the 4
species of sea turtles that visit Suriname each year are back! In their
nesting season from February to August they come by thousands to the
beach to secure their next generation. Visit Galibi (later this
year facilities for Matapica will be finished) and meet these kindly
ocean giants and their adorable hatchlings.![]()
MARINE TURTLE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
In
March 2007 we have started with our marine turtle program to protect and
monitor these ocean drifters and if you are interested to help us with
this program and be on places you normally won't see as a tourist
because of restrictions. Join STINASU in their struggle to protect these
beautiful animals.
