(Central Suriname Nature Reserve)
In the middle of the rainforest, located within the rapids of
the Coppenameriver, is Fungu island situated, the gate to the
Central Suriname Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage
site. The area has a surface of 1.6 million ha. and is the
largest, uninhabited, tropical rainforest reserve in the world.
Bright orange Cock of the Rock birds (Rupicola rupicola), mate
near the foot of the Voltzberg. All the 8 species of primates,
known in Suriname can be spotted. Special bird watching tours
can also be arranged for bird watchers.

Galibi Nature Reserve
Galibi Nature
Reserve is 4000 ha large, situated in the northeast of Suriname,
bordering French Guyana. In 1969 this area was designed a nature
reserve to protect the nesting beaches of sea turtles
contributing to international efforts in marine conservation.
Four endangered sea turtle species nest on the beaches from
february - augustus. These species are: Leatherback (Aitkanti),
Greenturtle (Krape), Hawksbill (Karet) and the Olive ridley (Warana).
On the beaches you can observe several water birds such like the
scarlet ibis, white and grey heron. At random you can see
dolphins and squirrel monkeys. While driving with a cozy bus to
Albina you will enjoy the wonderful nature. The trip continues
to Babunsanti in the Galibi Nature reserve with a STINASU boat
(non- covered). In the spare time you can enjoy the breeze of
the wind or take a swim in the Atlantic Ocean.

Brownsberg Nature Park
The Brownsberg
Nature Park is situated in the district of Brokopondo, about 130
km south of Paramaribo. In 1969 the nature park was donated by
the Surinamese government on a lease to the Foundation for
Nature Conservation in Suriname (STINASU). From the 500 meter
high Mazaroni plateau, where all our lodges are situated, you
will have a magnificent view over the Brokopondo lake. The many
different species of animals such as the Red Howler Monkey, that
hangs around near the lodges and jumps in the trees above the
well maintained trails, the mighty falls, the green amazone
tropical forest and the great diversity of birds, will make your
visit to the park an unforgettable experience.

Boven Coesewijne Nature Reserve
With 27.430 ha
this nature reserve was instituted in 1986 because of its unique
habitats
of savannah combined with wet land with beautiful creeks and
rivers. The savannah with
white and brown sand covered with scrubs grasses and small
trees. The water systems in this reserve are the habitats for
the endangered Manatee, Giant Otter and Spectacled Caiman.
Together with many waterfowl the scenery of trees overhanging
the rivers on the riverbanks and the scattering of birds in the
forest, you’ll feel like being in paradise. The best way to
explore this area is by foot, mountain bike and canoe.

Matapica Sea
turtle beach
Matapica with
its sandy beaches located along the north coast of Suriname
is an important nesting site for all four species of Sea Turtles
that visit Suriname each year. Matapica
is also the habitat of many species of water fowls like the
Scarlet Ibis.
